I have just finished a commemorative version of my photographic Tarot deck: Mountain Dream Tarot. 2020 marks its 50th anniversary. This is a digitally printed deck which was created by scanning the original prints that were used to create the 1st edition published in 1975. A minimal amount of editing was needed to make these cards fit the new aspect ratio of commercially printed digital decks, otherwise, the appearance of that ground-breaking deck has been maintained. It can be ordered using Paypal from my webstore following this link:

Four libraries have acquired Springs Victory: Kore Comes Back

December 3rd, 2018

hurrahSeveral Special Collections libraries have added my latest book SPRINGS VICTORY: KORE COMES BACK to their collections. Thanks to the Beinecke at Yale; Herron School of Art in Indianapolis; and the universities of Arizona and Central Florida.
The book is the myth of Persephone written entirely in surnames that I photograph on gravestones.
Here’s the final chapter of the book:

Hurrah! Demeter regains rising companion! April weathers start over during young persons advent.
Milder airs usher greener interval. Sun beams stream nicely overall. All welcome Mayweather bliss!
Dance music cheers seed sowers. Ready seeds begin to sprout. Wheat shoots greenup.
Springborn lamb capers on fuller fields. Olive trees flower, fruit groves prosper.
Prior mourning over, June favors morning outing. Merry laughter rings.
Pollen streams over July corn silks Wheat thresher bales holy miracle.
Eager sons eatwell, grow fat. August days offer overall welfare.
True joy shines on perfect paradise.

New interpretation of the myth of Persephone 2018

November 23rd, 2018

I have continued to take photographs of surnames on gravestones that function as parts of speech. Using these words I have written several poems and created artists books. My latest project has been to write a version of the myth of Persephone. Mine is called Springs Victory: Kore Comes Back (Kore being an alternate name for Persephone) and I have completed it in two formats. There is an open edition that can be ordered from my webpage store using Paypal ($35 plus shipping) and a limited edition. Email me at to determine current price and availability.

This is the limited edition which is a cloth bound book encased in a custom box:

The paper version is a two sided four fold accordion book of 4.5 x 11.75 and opens to 18″,.kore paper

Light and Lens: Photography in the Digital Age 3rd Edition

hole small

Recently the third edition of this textbook was issued. In it is one of the last images I made in the body of work called Return Trips. The image is Hole (2005) and this is what I wrote about it: “These photographic composites deal with the poetic impact of certain landscapes and aspects of classical architecture and art history on my life, and how these influences continue to remain in memory, resurfacing at unexpected moments. My photographs are autobiographical and represent my effort to clarify, to find meaning and significance in daily existence. Here, I was undergoing chemotherapy. Often epiphanies occur while traveling, as I try to locate related images that express my feelings about particular landscapes. Sometimes these photographs are taken on separate visits, thus the name of the series, Return Trips. I am fascinated by the way photographs that are placed in proximity can become a whole that is greater than the sum of the parts.”
