New books added to the Herron School of Art Collection

September 19th, 2017

During my recent lecture trip to the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, the library acquired several of my artists’ books, including two important unique books that I made in Italy in 2009. I was teaching for the University of Georgia’s study abroad program in Cortona.

Via S Margherita is a triple accordion depicting the uphill climb to the school every day.

Last week I visited SFMoma to see my Mountain Dream Tarot cards on display in The Good 70′s exhibition curated by Linde Lehtinen. She created this exhibition by featuring the work of photographs in their collection by photographers who were pictured in Mike Mandel’s Photographers Baseball card series. My “baseball” portrait was on display in the case along with my photographic Tarot cards.

Good 70s show at San Francisco MOMA

July 2nd, 2017

From now until August 20, you can see some of my original Mountain Dream Tarot cards in the exhibition Good 70′s at San Francisco MOMA. These cards were hand colored black and white photographic prints that were machine stitched between sheets of frosted mylar. MOMA owns a sample pack that contained 30 of the 78 tarot cards. The original complete deck is in the Yale’s Cary Card Collection at the Beinecke Library. The first edition of this deck was printed in 1975. They are now in their third edition.

Another alternative processes text and history book has just been released, this one from Oxford University Press. A cloth page from a 1971 notebook of mine is featured. It is Padded Parades, a gum print on fabric that also incorporated magazine transfers, hand coloring and sewing machine stitching.
