In the myth of Persephone, the seasons are explained. Hades captured Persephone while she was picking flowers and took her to the underworld. Her grieving mother Demeter caused all vegetation to die unless she was returned, but Persephone had eaten some pomegranate seeds while in the underworld, and was only allowed to return in the spring and summer .

These two leather bound accordions are filled with collages that show her descent to the underworld where she is surrounded by artificial and stone flowers, and then her return to the fertile earth. In this cold winter, the myth seems more appropriate than ever.
